Oats is Changing!
Working towards becoming Oats General Store, we will be run by Brixham residents.
We will be Brixham’s first ever community owned and managed enterprise which is a very exciting prospect!
We plan to become a registered Community Benefit Society. This means that anyone can become a member.

We have a great team already on board and busy. Here are just a few of us ...
As the current owner of Oats I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to play my part within this community, enjoying the company of customers and making new friends.
I am excited to see our original vision bearing the seed of a Community Store and I’m happy to be involved in the change.
I believe local collaboration and co-operation is a way to sustainability; to see this project taking fruition in Brixham is very heart warming indeed!
Web & Tech
I'm really pleased to be helping move Oats towards its new future as Brixham's first Community Store. It is a fab idea and suits the town perfectly I think.
I'll be putting the web site together and hopefully lend a hand with any other technical requirements not already covered by the rest of the team.
I started out as an Engineer at Gatwick Airport but spent most of my career in computer systems management, software design, database development and web systems design with STC as well as BAA, Butlins, Warner, Haven and privately as a contractor.

In the early sixties my parents treated me & my siblings to lunch in a wholefood cafe in Park Row Bristol where we encountered amazing salads & nut rissoles - my interest in healthy eating sprouted there & then...
In my early forties I took courses in Counselling & trained as an alternative therapist - studying Reiki Reflexology & Colour Therapy & more recently Kinesiology & am still learning.
I moved to beautiful Brixham 3+ years ago & acquired a garden big enough to become self-sufficient in veg & fruit using organic & some biodynamic principles - it has thrived.
Oats friendly helpful proprietors offer much variety & diversity whilst remaining faithful to the principles of a healthy planet for all... I am invested in it continuing.

I volunteer at Brixham Memory café, I am one of the volunteers who run
Shoalstone pool and I am secretary of Brixham Fairtrade Working Group. I am active in the Co-operative Party. I serve as a Non Legal Tribunal member and I work as a Community Builder for Brixham.

I am Brixham born and bred.....
I developed a love for seasonal, locally produced and gathered, sustainable food after college, when I was fortunate enough to work for one of the first ever celebrity chefs, Joyce Molyneux, at The Carved Angel in Dartmouth almost 30 years ago.
My interest in the transition of Oats came firstly from being a customer not wanting to see it close and secondly really believing that there is still a place in our town for Oats, a shop focused on the well-being of the residents of BRIXHAM, it’s surrounding areas AND our environment.
I would like to see OATS GENERAL STORE make shopping more informative, sustainable and personal to our community - encouraging residents to share ideas and have the joy of making amazing quality, nourishing food.

I am really excited that Oats General Store will be the first community owned and managed shop in Brixham. I have been involved since the early conversations when we first dreamt of this possibility and it has attracted some great people to get on board and make it happen.
I have lived in Brixham for 13 years and have worked in sustainability all my life. Since COVID19 and the lock-downs it has made me realise how important it is to support our local community and local businesses. I see Oats as a great way of getting involved as well as helping the planet.
